Government sends relief supplies to Afghani citizens

KATHMANDU: The government has sent humanitarian and relief materials to the citizens of Afghanistan on behalf of the Nepali people today.

The government sent 12 tons of humanitarian aid, relief materials, including medicines and clothes to Afghanistan, which is facing a major humanitarian crisis of late.

According to Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Narayan Khadka, the relief materials, including medicines have been dispatched to Kabul through a special flight of the Himalaya Airlines.

“The humanitarian assistance package means moral responsibilities of Nepal as a member state of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) to help others in need,” Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Khadka said.

He added that a team from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs flew to the Afghan capital, Kabul, to deliver humanitarian aid to Afghans.

Minister Khadka further stated that this is the first humanitarian aid provided by Nepal through its own aircraft.

According to him, the relief materials and supplies will be handed over to the UN representative in Kabul.

Saying that this is an important mission and campaign in view of international relations, the minister said that the UN, industrialists, businesspersons, the Airlines and Nepal Oil Corporation have helped with this campaign by donating the materials.
