NC urges federal, province and local govt to protect lives of disaster victims



KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has urged the three-tiers of government to protect the lives of the people affected by natural disaster as well as to rescue, provide relief and financial assistance.

A meeting of Central Work Execution Committee of the Nepali Congress held on Friday directed its party members and sister organisations to involve in rescue and relief of those affected by recent floods in Karnali Province as well as to assist in shifting them to safer places.

The meeting also expressed grief over the incident where round three dozens of people were killed, 20 went missing and 23 were injured in Karnali Province due to incessant rainfall occurred from October 5.

Seven houses were completely damaged in Rukum (West), 236 in Mugu, 232 in Kalikot, 28 in Humla, 129 in Surkhet, 12 in Jajarkot, 67 in Salyan, five in Dolpa, 368 in Jumla and 271 in Dailekh districts so far due to flood and landslide.

Similarly, three houses are at high risk in Rukum (West), 499 in Mugu, 435 in Kalikot, 32 in Humla, 127 in Salyan, six in Dolpa, 440 in Jumla and 236 in Dailekh districts.

A total of 15 people have been displaced in Rukum (West), 5,282 in Mugu, 1,763 in Kalikot, 4,074 in Humla, 566 in Surkhet, 629 in Salyan, 32 in Dilpa, 1725 in Jumla, 1,720 in Dailekh and 18 in Jajarkot districts,  reads a press release issued after the meeting.

Extending tribute to all who lost their lives in natural disaster, the meeting expressed condolences to the bereaved families, said NC Party Office Chief Secretary, Krishna Prasad Poudel.
