Indian Embassy in Nepal celebrates India’s 76th Independence Day



KATHMANDU: The Embassy of India in Kathmandu celebrated India’s 76th Independence Day on Monday.

The celebration was part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, which was launched by the Government of India in March 2021 to commemorate the historic milestone of 75 years of India’s Independence.

The celebrations began with the hoisting of the national flag by Counsellor Prasanna Shrivastava, a statement issued by the Embassy said.

An address to the nation from President of India, Droupadi Murmu was also read out on the occasion.

The President’s message recalled the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters towards achieving India’s freedom and highlighted the country’s achievements in various fields. Using the words of India’s nationalist poet Kuvempu, she urged India’s youth to make “total sacrifice for the motherland and upliftment of fellow citizens”.

Likewise, the Embassy in Kathmandu felicitated widows and next of kin of deceased Gorkha soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces by disbursing their dues worth NPR 2.65 Crore.

The Embassy also awarded the winners of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Quiz as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.

Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, had organized the quiz to motivate overseas Indian youth and foreign nationals to enhance their knowledge about India.
