NC lawmaker Pushpa Bhusal becomes Deputy Speaker

Nepali Congress lawmaker Pushpa Bhusal has been elected Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Bhusal was elected Deputy Speaker in the election held for the post in the House of Representatives on Friday.

Speaker Agni Sapkota announced that 148 votes were cast in favor of Bhusal and 93 against.

Earlier, CPN-Maoist leader Dev Prasad Gurung had presented Bhusal’s name as the coalition candidate.

Supreme Court dismisses petition filed against IGP Singh’s appointment

The Supreme Court has rejected a writ petition filed against the government’s decision to appoint Dhiraj Pratap Singh as the Inspector General of Nepal Police (IGP).

A division bench of acting Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki and Justice Kumar Chudal on Friday ruled that the cabinet’s decision to appoint Singh as IGP was legal.

With this order, petitioner Additional Inspector General (AIG) Bishwaraj Pokhrel either must report to the police headquarters and resume work or resign.

In addition, the apex court also quashed another petition filed by DIGs Ishwarbabu Karki, Ghanshyam Aryal and Prakashjung Karki against the decision to promote Basant Kumar Pant and Rabindra Bahadur Dhanuk along with Singh to the post of AIG.

Government meets 88.41 percent target in revenue collection

The government had a target of collecting revenue of over Rs 1,180 billion in the current fiscal year and tomorrow July 16 is the last day of the year.

The data from the Office of Auditor General show that to date, the revenue collection in the current fiscal year is worth Rs 1,035 billion and it is 87.7 percent of the target.

According to the Office, there is a target of collecting tax revenue of around Rs 1,068 billion in the current fiscal year and the collection to date stands at over Rs 957 billion and this is 89.65 percent of the target.

Similarly, the collection towards the non-tax revenue is Rs 77.19 billion against the target of around Rs 113 billion and this is 69.23 percent of the target.

Raju Shrestha appointed Honorary Consul of Laos

 The Lao People’s Democratic Republic has appointed entrepreneur Raju Shrestha as its Honorary Consul to Nepal.

Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Durga Bahadur Subedi and Deputy Chief of the Mission (DCM) of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in Delhi Keo Sengdavong jointly presented the certificate of Consul to Shrestha amidst a function in Kathmandu on Friday evening.

BJP receives Maoist Chair Prachanda in New Delhi

Chairman of the CPN-Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has reached New Delhi, India.

Prachanda reached Delhi on Friday for a three-day visit to India.

Prachanda, who reached India at the invitation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was welcomed in Delhi by BJP External Affairs Chief Vijay Chauthaiwale.

Nepali Ambassador to India Dr. Shankar Sharma joined BJP in welcoming Prachanda.

Before departing from Kathmandu, Prachanda said that talks would be held on strengthening trade relations between the two countries.
