Coronavirus spreads in Morang Prison, 18 hospitalized

BIRATNAGAR: Coronavirus pandemic has spread in Biratnagar-8 based District Jail Morang of late.

According to the jail administration, out of 19 prisoners admitted to Kosi Hospital on Thursday after they developed high fever, one died and 18 are undergoing treatment.

Out of those who were taken to the hospital, 16 people tested COVID-19 positive in the antigen test. Although two bore coronavirus negative report, they still share similar symptoms as those positive.

“Patients with a fever of more than 100 degrees have been admitted to the hospital. The number of patients inside is very high,” said a prison source.

The medical superintendent of Koshi Hospital, Dr. Yagya Raj Kharel informed that the hospital is preparing for the PCR test of all prisoners admitted in the hospital.

Among the admitted jailbirds, Neer Bahadur Nepal, 39, of Sundarharaincha-4 died developing high fever on Thursday.

Although the symptoms were similar to coronavirus, the deceased was not tested for Corona. He was serving a prison sentence in the murder icase and had a fever of 104 degrees. His body has been handed over to his relatives.

In the Morang jail with the capacity of 300 men and women, there are currently 1,087 prisoners.
