FNJ objects to EC’s decision to employ Investigation Department to monitor election code

KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has objected to the Election Commission’s initiative to assign the National Investigation Department to monitor whether the election code of conduct is enforced.

FNJ disagreed why EC gave responsibility to the department to monitor whether journalists and media abide by the election code of conduct.

Press Council Nepal has been conducting the media monitoring regularly. “We draw the attention of EC that monitoring by the investigation department would be unacceptable to Nepali media at a time when they are abiding by the code as per the principle of self-regulation,” FNJ wrote in its statement.

The FNJ also drew the EC’s attention on why it discriminated among media while distributing publicity advertisement. The online media were discriminated, FNF blamed.

The EC has been strongly urged to correct this discriminatory decision.
