New parliament should take the ownership of impeachment motion ahead: Former Judges

KATHMANDU: Former Judges Forum (FJF), Nepal has said that the impeachment motion registered against then Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana should be taken over by the new parliament when the term of the House of Representatives (HoR) ends.

Speaking at the press conference organized by Former Judges Forum, Nepal in Kathmandu on Wednesday, FJF Chairman Top Bahadur Singh said that the motion would not become inactive when the term of parliament ends and new parliament should take the motion to the conclusion to the logical end.

The impeachment motion registered against Rana on February 13, is currently pending in the parliament’s recommendation committee.

There is still confusion as to what will happen to the impeachment against Rana after the term of the HoR ends on September 18.

Amid the rumors that the suspended Chief Justice Rana is likely to return to the Supreme Court once the parliament’s term is over, FJF clarified that the impeachment motion would be automatically passed to the new parliament when the tenure of the incumbent parliament is over.
