UML seeks Finance Ministry’s CCTV footage of May 29 midnight and parliamentary inquiry into FinMin Sharma

HoR meeting adjourned till 11 am Wednesday

KATHMANDU: The main opposition party CPN-UML has sought the CCTV footage of the Finance Ministry of May 29 midnight, a day before the budget was made public, and a parliamentary inquiry into the Finance Minister.

The UML demanded the CCTV footage and parliamentary probe after it was reported that Finance Minister Janardan Sharma had allowed the entry of two unauthorized persons into the Finance Ministry to alter the tax rate at the eleventh hour.

The UML demand for CCTV footage and probe comes after Minister Sharma clarified in the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting on Tuesday that there had been no unauthorized access into the ministry that day.

UML Chief Whip Bishal Bhattarai demanded to make public the CCTV footage of the day concerned and form a parliamentary inquiry committee to look into the matter. He warned that the House would not be able to function until the demand was met.

Soon after as Speaker Agni Sapkota tried to move the HoR meeting forward, UML lawmakers stood up and protested.

The UML lawmakers continued to protest despite Speaker Sapkota’s request to allow the meeting to continue.

As a result, the Speaker adjourned the House till 11 am Wednesday by clearing the remaining agenda.
