KATHMANDU: After the government decided to introduce an ordinance to amend the Civil Code of Criminal Procedure 2074, the students’ organization of CPN-UML has started a protest.
All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU) protested in Kathmandu on Tuesday saying that the government’s ordinance is ill-intent and unconstitutional.
“The government has brought the ordinance with the intention of releasing the people passing life sentence for murder and other heinous crimes, the protest is against this,” one of the student leaders said.
The government introduced the ordinance to meet the demands of Nagarik Unmukti Party and Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led Nepal Communist Party leaders allegedly involved in serious criminal activities like murder and arson.
The government has sent an ordinance to the President on Monday to amend the Civil Criminal Procedure Code 2074. The next day, on Tuesday morning, ANNFSU protested in front of Tri-Chandra College, shouting slogans with placards.
The protesting students protested demanded the end of the criminalization of politics and the politicization of crime.
