China’s top lawmaker Li lands in Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, has landed at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu at around 3 pm on Monday.

Leading a delegation of about 100 people, leader Li is on a four-day official visit to Nepal at the invitation of Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota.

A team, including Speaker Sapkota, Speaker of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timalsina and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lok Bahadur Thapa welcomed the Chinese delegation led by leader Li.

The visiting delegation, after arrival, headed directly to Hotel Soaltee in Kathmandu.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Li is scheduled to visit Nepal from September 12 to 15, 2022.

Speaker Sapkota and Li will hold delegation-level bilateral talks at around 5 pm today (Monday) at the Parliament building in New Baneshwor.

The Speaker is also hosting a banquet in honor of Li and the members of his delegation later in the evening.

During his stay, Li will pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Tuesday and President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Wednesday.

Li will also hold separate meetings with KP Sharma Oli, former Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN-UML; and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, former Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN-Maoist Centre on September 13.

He will return home on September 15 on a special flight.
