Around 200,000 tourists enter Nepal from January to May 2022



KATHMANDU: Around 200,000 tourists have entered Nepal from different countries through Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in the past five months.

According to the Department of Immigration under the Ministry of Home Affairs, tourists came to Nepal from more than 170 countries in the period from January to May 2022.

A total of 193,944 tourists visited Nepal and 183,675 tourists returned home from Nepal during the review period.

Tourist arrivals, which were halted after the outbreak of the COVID19 pandemic, have been steadily increasing in recent months.

Tourist activity has started to increase after COVID vaccine came into use.

Only 150,962 tourists had visited Nepal in 2021 due to the pandemic.

The statistics of the department showed that number of tourists entering Nepal in the first five months of this year is more than the total tourists arriving the previous.

In 2020, 230,085 tourists visited Nepal.

According to the department, 16,975 tourists visited Nepal in January, 19,966 in February, 42,006 in March, 61,589 in April and 53,608 in May this year.
