Gandaki provincial govt to intensify security at major transit over Omicron

KATHMANDU: The Gandaki provincial government has decided to tighten security at the major transit to the province in view of Omicron risks.

As its part, the health protection and surveillance center at Aanbukhaireni rural municipality in Tanahun district will be equipped with required health equipment and necessary human resources. Similarly, free COVID-19 tests would be ensured and intensified.

Vehicles entering the province would be recorded and obedience to the health protocols monitored said the surveillance center Chief Agam Prasad Upadhyay.

“All people entering the province will be made to follow the health protocols. Suspected people will be under surveillance immediately. Health awareness will be provided.”

Infected people will be kept in institution isolation immediately, said Bharat Koirala, press advisor to Chief Minister of the province, Krishna Chandra Nepali.

The government has also decided to ask the lower Marsyangdi hydropower office to let its lands be used for managing the surveillance center.

The surveillance center that was established four months ago during the second wave of the infection had remained dormant following the lessening impact of the second wave.
