Governor faced action for not cooperating with finance minister: PM Deuba

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has clarified that the governor faced action for not cooperating with the finance minister.

The government on Friday formed a three-member inquiry committee headed by a former Supreme Court judge against Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari, leading to automatic suspension of the governor.

The government action against the governor has courted wide criticisms.

Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa and CPN-Maoist Center leader Barshaman Pun questioned the government for its move against the governor amidst an economic crisis at a meeting of the ruling parties on Monday.

Prime Minister Deuba responded that action was taken against the governor for not cooperating.

According to him, the Finance Minister complained of not being allowed to work due to the governor’s non-cooperation.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Deuba said, “The finance minister told that the governor was very uncooperative. The governor should have helped the minister at such a time.”
