President Bhandari receives WPL Trailblazer Award 2022

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has been honored with the “Women Political Leaders Trailblazer Award” in Iceland.

The award was awarded by the Women’s Political Leaders Forum (WPL).

Silvana Koch-Mehrin, Founder and President of WPL, a forum of international women leaders, handed over the award to President Bhandari at a function in Reykjavík, Iceland.

SC asks Election Commission not to take action on ‘No, Not Again Campaign’

The Supreme Court has asked the Election Commission not to implement its decision to punish the group associated with the ‘No Not Again Campaign’ as per cyber law.

The division bench of Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla and Sushma Lata Mathema continued the interlocutory order the SC had given.

A single bench of Justice Hari Prasad Phunyal had issued the interlocutory order on November 6.

Why is Chinese minister making an ill-timed visit to Nepal?

China’s Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism, Li Qun is arriving in Nepal on Friday at a crucial time raising eyebrows when Nepal’s elections to the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly are a stone’s throw away.

Even though his visit has been said to “inspect the heritages/structures that have been rebuilt with the help of China after the earthquake,” observers have raised suspicion over his visit at this crucial hour labeling it “ill-timed”.

Observers have to note that this visit, too, could be meant to meddle in Nepal’s internal affairs as the minister could have visited the country after the elections.

“This is not the right time to make such a visit,” a foreign ministry source said adding, “I don’t think that the government of Nepal invited him at this time.”

NC’s Man Bahadur Limbu to be a new candidate for Morang 3(1)

The Nepali Congress has decided to file candidacy of Man Bahadur Limbu for Morang 3(1) following the demise of Shekhar Chandra Thapa, Minister for Forest, Environment and Soil Conservation of Province 1.

Thapa breathed his last at 10:40 AM on Wednesday. He was suffering from pneumonia.

Earlier, NC had filed the candidacy of Thapa for Morang 3(1). Following Thapa’s demise, the poll body has granted time for NC to file a new candidacy on Thursday.

Government recommended to develop separate mechanism for arrears settlement

The government has been advised to develop a separate committee to deal with arrears issues and find an effective way for its settlement and for an improvement in the public finance management system.

According to a study report prepared by the National Planning Commission, the government requires a separate body to address overdue issues.

The NPC in the report entitled ‘study report about the situation of public auditing and settlement of arrears in Nepal, 2079 BS’ proposed that the government should have a separate body for looking after the arrears issues.

Import ban results in closure of 58 motor dealers across country

The government has banned the imports of vehicles in a bid to save foreign exchange reserves. However, the imports of electric vehicles are allowed.

Imports of light vehicles like car, van and jeep for personal use have been banned. But, the ban has resulted in the shutting down of many motor dealers across the country, adding financial burdens on businesspersons, according to the NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal.

Similarly, increasing interest rates on loans by banks and financial institutions has also added to their problems. In the previous fiscal year, 2021/22, banks and financial institutions invested approximately Rs 95 billion in motor dealers.

According to latest data with NADA, as a result of the ban, at least 58 motor dealers across the country have shut down. Likewise, 100 others are on the verge of closure.

CEC Thapaliya-EU Ambassador Deprez meet

Ambassador of the European Union to Nepal, Nona Deprez, has met with Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya today.

During the meeting held at Election Commission’s office at Kantipath, discussion was held on various issues including November 20 election to the House of Representatives and Province Assembly member and bilateral concern.

NC expresses grief over the death of demise of freedom fighter Sapkota

The Nepali Congress has expressed grief over the demise of freedom fighter Tilak Prasad Sapkota. Congress Central Office Secretary Prakash Sharma issued a condolence statement here today, expressing grief over the demise of 77-year-old Sapkota, a resident of Gaidakot-8, Nawalparasi (Bardghat Susta East).

Sapkota was a candidate of Nepali Congress from Nawalparasi constituency No. 2 in the general elections of 2048. He also worked in various organizational positions of the party. Sapkota served jail term during the movement and struggle for the establishment and restoration of democracy in Nepal.

Cardio vascular hybrid theatre set up in TU Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular Center

The Tribhuvan University Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Center has set up a hybrid operating theater for cardiovascular surgery.

Similarly, it has launched an advanced CT scan service. “The theater was set up one month ago. Equipment for the 512-slice CT scanner have been set up. The service will begin soon,” said the Center’s executive director Prof Dr Uttam Krishna Shrestha.

The hybrid theatre is an operating theatre with built‐in radiological screening capabilities wherein cardio surgery and cath lab procedures take place simultaneously.

Coalition for safeguarding constitution: Prachanda

CPN Maoist Centre Chairman, who is also the ruling alliance’s candidate for House of Representatives (HoR) from Gorkha Constituency No. 2, said that the left-democratic alliance was formed to safeguard the constitution which was promulgated after a seven-decade-long struggle of the Nepali people.

Addressing an election assembly at Bhachchek village of Ajirkot in Gorkha on Thursday, the Maoist Centre Chairman said the pro-constitution forces united for a cause after the constitution was pushed into peril by the anti-constitution forces.

This alliance was formed to safeguard the achievements that the country made, he said, adding that “regressive, status-quoist forces are attempting to rise their heads at times”.

NEPSE loses 23.52 points to close at 1,893.70

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index has lost 23.52 points to close at 1,893.70 points on Thursday.

Similarly, the sensitive index fell 4.17 points to close at 372.37 points.

A total of 3,114,689 units of shares of 226 companies were traded for Rs 1.119 billion.

All sub-indices closed red today.

Nepal sees 16 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 16 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Thursday.

All the confirmed cases, nine were detected through the RT-PCR method and seven through Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 1837 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
