Rival Malla files complaint against NC Prez Deuba’s nomination with EC

Rival candidate Karna Malla has filed a complaint with the Election Commission against the candidacy of Nepali Congress President and incumbent Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Both Malla and Deuba have filed nominations for the House of Representative elections from Dadeldhura constituency.

A complaint has been filed stating that Deuba’s date of birth in the voter’s list and in the citizenship was a mismatch.

Deuba’s date of birth on his citizenship is “Jestha 31, 2003”, whereas it is “Jestha 31, 2002” in the voters list.

Malla filed a complaint pointing out the discrepancy in Deuba’s date of birth in two documents. Malla has also demanded cancellation of Deuba’s candidacy on grounds of the error.

Time for claim and protest against PR candidates till Oct 15

Claims and protest against candidates enlisted in the published closed list under proportional representative (PR) system of the election to the House of Representatives and Province Assembly can be made until October 15.

The Election Commission permitted time from Sunday to file application of claim and protest regarding the qualification and disqualification of the candidates incorporated in the amended list submitted by different political parties.

EC Secretary and Chief Election Officer towards PR system, Gokarnamani Dawadi, said the EC would publish the final name list of candidates on October 26 by carrying out investigation on the claim and protest.

Four buried to death in landslide

Four people died when a house was buried in a landslide in Melchham of Chakheli rural municipality-6 of Humla.

Five others were injured when landslide fell on the house of Manbir BK on Sunday night, according to Karnali Province Police Office Surkhet.

The injured were rescued alive this morning. Two of the injured are in serious condition.

Provincial Police Spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police Madhav Prasad Shrestha said a helicopter of Nepal Army managed to take the seriously injured to Nepalgunj for treatment could not take off due to bad weather.

The deceased are 60-year-old Tulsa, seven-year-old Basantaa, nine-year-old Sushmita and 12-year-old Haijali Kami, police said.

Search on for 13 people missing in Tilagupha landslide

A search is on for the 13 people who reportedly went missing in a landslide triggered by incessant rain for five days at Ranchuli, Tilagupha Municipality-4 in Kalikot district.

Chief District Officer Ram Hari Sharma said they were among the 53 people who were attending a funeral of a local youth on October 8.

CDO Sharma said, out of the 53 people attending the funeral, 13 are suspected to have been swept away by the landslide down to the Tila River.

A team of Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and Nepali Army is mobilized for searching for the missing persons, CDO Sharma said.

Dengue-induced death toll climbs to 44

Death toll from the outbreak of Dengue has reached 44, with the mosquito-borne viral disease spreading to 76 of the 77 districts in the country.

Dengue has so far been confirmed in 33,975 people since it was first reported in early August, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 infection has been confirmed in 27 people in the last 24 hours. It was found in a total of 1,546 samples tested.

The number of active cases is 569.

Centenarian Joshi’s health improving, but not out of danger

Health of centenarian person Satya Mohan Joshi has improved as compared to Sunday, it has been said. But, he is not out of danger, said KIST Medical College, Lalitpur.

Joshi is receiving oxygen therapy at the hospital after his heartbeat increased on Sunday. As a result, his health has somehow improved, said the hospital director Prof Dr Suraj Bajracharya.

Karnali flood displaces over 800 households in Bardiya

More than 800 families have been displaced due to the flooding caused by the swollen Karnali River following incessant rain.

As many as 800 households in Rajapur Municipality and Geruwa Rural Municipality have been inundated and the families have been shifted to safer ground nearby, said Dipesh Chaudhary, the mayor of Rajapur Municipality.

NEPSE loses 27.16 points to close at 1,871.22 on Monday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index has lost 27.16 points to close at 1,871.22 points on Monday.

Likewise, the Sensitive Index fell by 5.36 points to settle at 366.84 points today (Monday).

A total of 3,155,695 units of shares of 233 companies traded via 17,876 transactions, resulting in a turnover of Rs 971 million throughout trading hours today.

All sub-indices, except Mutual Funds, closed red in the market.

Nepal, Italy sign MoU establishing consultation mechanism

Foreign Secretary Bharat Raj Paudyal and Ambassador of Italy to Nepal, Vincenzo de Luca, today signed a MoU on the Establishment of a Bilateral Consultation Mechanism between the two Foreign Ministries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a tweet.

The Mechanism will be an important platform for dialogue on regular basis between the Ministries in further enhancing bilateral relations and promoting areas of cooperation, it is stated.
