Govt bans all kinds of strikes on essential services



KATHMANDU: The government has banned all kinds of strikes in 25 essential services.

The Ministry of Home Affairs, while publishing the information in the Gazette, has banned all kinds of strikes in 25 essential services using the right given by sub-section 1 of section 3 of the Essential Services Operation Act, 2014.

Areas prohibited from strike include postal, wire, or telephone services, print or government printing services, communications, internal security services, drinking water operation and distribution services, banking services, insurance services, and electricity services.

Similarly, mask-related services, hand sanitizer-related services, veterinary services, services provided by the consular services department, services provided by the passport department and internet services have also been designated as prohibited areas.

If a person goes on strike or participates in a service that is prohibited under the Essential Services Operation Act, he/she will be punished with imprisonment for up to 6 months or a fine up to Rs. 200, or both.
