New travel advisory for Nepal-bound tourists issued; all COVID-related restrictive measures lifted

A proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or a negative PCR report sufficient to enter Nepal

KATHMANDU: The Department of Immigration has issued a new travel advisory for tourists coming to Nepal from abroad, scrapping all restrictive provisions imposed during COVID-19 pandemic.

The department issued a new advisory today (Thursday), lifting all restrictions imposed during the coronavirus pandemic to foreigners entering Nepal.

According to a statement issued by the Director of the Immigration Department Mukesh Kumar Keshari, tourists arriving in Nepal from abroad now onwards will only have to submit the proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or alternately a negative PCR report.

Earlier, the government had mandated tourists coming to Nepal to submit vaccine cards along with a negative PCR report that had to be issued 72 hours before arrival. Likewise, tourists were also required to undergo 14 days hotel quarantine and book a hotel in advance.

The Immigration Department repealed all those provisions today and eased foreigners’ entry to Nepal. Director Keshari said foreigners do not have to stay in quarantine anymore.

“Tourists entering Nepal via air and land routes need to submit just the proof of vaccination against COVID-19,” the statement read. It added that those who could not produce proof of vaccination could alternately submit a negative PCR report issued prior to 72 hours before leaving for Nepal.
