New York fire kills 19 including 9 children



NEW YORK: At least 19 people, including nine children, have died in a fire that broke out in a New York apartment building, BBC reported.

Another 32 people who sustained injuries and were sent to hospital, several of whom are in a critical condition.

“The victims were found on every floor of the 19-storey block,” Fire department Commissioner Daniel Nigro said, adding the smoke was “unprecedented”.

The fire broke out in an apartment that spread to the second and third floors of the Bronx apartment block Sunday at about 11:00 local time (16:00 GMT), officials said.
