CCMCC decides to close schools till Jan 29 in view of surging COVID-19 cases

Vaccination card made mandatory at public places, including airports



KATHMANDU: The COVID19 Crisis Management Coordination Center (CCMCC) has decided to close schools till January 29 keeping in mind the soaring cases of COVID19 of late.

According to CCMCC Spokesperson Sunita Nepal, a CCMCC meeting held Sunday decided to shut schools till January 29. The meeting also barred gathering of over 25 people in public places.

The CCMCC has urged all and sundry not to hold political, public, social and similar gatherings in public places. People are required to take permission of the local administration concerned for carrying out most essential events, as per Spokesperson Nepal.

Also, people will be required to show vaccination cards before entering hotels and cinema halls, among other public places, with effect from January 17.

According to Spokesperson Nepal, entry to public places (offices, hotels, restaurants, cinema halls, theaters, airports, parks, etc.), is subject to mandatory showing the proof of vaccination. People can also show proof of vaccination (vaccine cards) on their mobile phones.

The CCMCC has advanced its recommendations to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration for the implementation. State Minister at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Umesh Shrestha was also present in meeting of the CCMC on Sunday.

Similarly, the CCMC has recommended the Ministry of Home Affairs to enforce the provision of mandatorily appearing with the vaccine cards while visiting the film halls, park and other public places, including airports.

The Chief District Officers of the districts concerned can take additional decisions considering the local context.

The government took the decisions in view of the increasing number of COVID19 cases. As many as 24 coronavirus cases with Omicron variant were detected in the country on Friday.

The country has been recording an alarming surge in the coronavirus cases with the daily count reaching 1,167 on Sunday.
