Westerly low pressure system likely to cause rain, snowfall



KATHMANDU: The westerly low pressure system in the country is likely to bring slight rain and snowfall in most parts of the country, the Meteorological Forecasting Division said.

The Division has urged one and all to apply precautions from cold and snowfall adding that chances of slight to moderate rain along with lightning are likely in some places of Sudurpaschim, Karnali, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.

The division said that light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is possible at some places of Gandaki Province, Karnali Province and Sudurpashchim Province while light rain is possible at one or two places of Province 1, Bagmati Province and Lumbini Province.

It is said that there are chances of light to moderate snowfall at many places of the high mountainous region.

On Sunday, there will be generally cloudy in Karnali Province and Sudurpashchim Province and partly to generally cloudy in the rest of the provinces.

According to the Division, light rain or thunder and lightning is forecasted at some places of Lumbini Province, Karnali Province and Sudurpashchim Province and at one or two places of Province 1, Province 2, Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province.

Meanwhile, Simkot, the district headquarters of Humla, has been affected by snowfall since Friday evening.

Heavy snowfall has made it difficult for locals to get out of their homes.

The temperature has dropped drastically below minus 12 degrees Celsius.

Chapal Lama, a local of Tumkot shared that up to four feet of snow has accumulated in Malimi, Muchul and other areas of Namkha Municipality due to the snowfall.

As a result, even the drinking water and the river water have frozen. Usually busy with people, Simkot is now deserted due to extreme cold and snow.

Assistant Chief District Officer Dasharath Rai shared that the people’s life around Simkot has been affected due to the continuous snowfall.
