KATHMANDU: The birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the first Sikh Guru, is being observed by organizing various programs today.

It is celebrated on the day of Kartik Poornima, the full moon day in the month of Kartik every year as per the Lunar Calendar.

Guru Nanak was born on a full moon day in the month of Kartik in 1526 BS in Punjab Province of Pakistan.

He started the concept of humanism by putting casteism to an end. ‘Guru Grantha Sahib’-the holy religious scripture of Sikhism, would be recited at Rajrajeshwori Nirmal Akhada at Pashupati on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, said Swami Gokulananda.

Similarly, Guru Nanak birth anniversary will be observed by organizing various programs at Guru Nanak’s shrine at Bhasmeshwor of Pashupati, Gyaneshwor and Thapathali.
