PM Deuba aggrieved over demise of former Japanese PM Abe; national mourning on Saturday
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed his sorrow over the demise of former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe.
He took to Twitter and offered his sorrow over the demise of Abe. “My heartfelt condolence! He (Abe) was not only a popular leader in the world, but also a good friend of Nepal.”
PM Deuba also offered his condolences to the citizens of Japan and the bereaved family.
Abe died after being shot on Friday morning while addressing an election campaign.
Similarly, issuing a press statement on Friday, the Home Ministry said there would be the national mourning and not any formal program at Abe’s demise.
Government introduces new provisions for land leasehold
The government has introduced new provisions in regard with giving land owned by the government on lease up to 40 years.
The government has issued an action plan relating to the registration and utilization of public land and providing it on lease, 2079 BS in the Nepal Gazette.
According to the new provisions, foreign diplomatic missions and UN-affiliated bodies in the country, inter-governmental organizations, universities, board committees or other autonomous organizations established under the province government or local levels and any organization registered in the Federal government, province government or the local level shall be eligible for acquiring land on lease.
More, it can be given to an individual as well.
The period of lease shall be for a five-year (short-term), 15-year (mid-term) and 40-year (long-term).
New bill related to citizenship will be endorsed soon: Home Minister
Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand has assured that the new bill related to citizenship would be passed soon with consensus among political parties.
A decision in this regard would be taken by tabling the bill in the meeting of the Council of Ministers scheduled for Friday itself, said the Minister while responding to queries raised on the proposal to withdraw the Nepal Citizen (First Amendment) Bill, 2075 in the session of the House of Representatives on Friday.
CACN draws government’s attention to controlling inflation
The Consumer Awareness Campaign Nepal (CACN), an organization working in the consumer’s rights sector, has called attention of the government on controlling the spiraling inflation.
The Campaign office-holders on Thursday met with the Chief Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi and the officials of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies and the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection in this connection.
A delegation led by the Campaign’s president Krishna Prasad Bhandari Marseli submitted a memorandum and through it drew the government’s attention to immediately checking market price rise.
President appoints resident ambassadors to three countries
President Bidya Devi Bhandari has, on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, appointed Nepal’s resident ambassadors to three various countries.
Accordingly, President Bhandari has appointed Dornath Aryal as the Resident Ambassador to Oman, Nawaraj Subedi the Resident Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Basudev Mishra as the Resident Ambassador to Sri Lanka.
The Office of the President stated this in a communiqué today, Friday.
T-20 World Cup trophy to be brought to Nepal
The T20 Cricket World Cup trophy will be brought to Nepal for the first time. The trophy will be brought to Kathmandu during the T20 World Cup starting from October 16 in Australia.
According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), the trophy tour has started from Friday.
The journey to take the trophy to different cities of the world has started 100 days before the start of the World Cup. The ICC has stated that the trophy will be brought to Kathmandu on August 30.
However, it has not been revealed which cities of Nepal will have the privilege of hosting the trophy. The trophy tour will be conducted in 35 cities in 13 different countries.
NEPSE declines by 34.71 points Friday
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE)declined by 34.71 points on the two-hours Friday trading.
The stock market index fell 1.71 percent on Friday, the last trading day of the week.
On Friday, the NEPSE index fell by 34.71 points and closed at 1992.61 points.
Along with NEPSE, all sub-indices have also declined. The trade, hotel and tourism and finance companies sub-index fell more than 3 percent.
The market saw a turnover of Rs 1.16 billion on Friday.
