Former Japanese PM Abe shot in chest, rushed to hospital



TOKYO: Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has reportedly been shot in the chest during a campaign speech in the Japanese city of Nara, media reports have said.

Abe, who collapsed after the attack, was rushed to a nearby medical facility, according to local reports.

Abe collapsed during a speech in the city of Nara, in western Japan, local media reports said, adding that he may have been injured in the attack.

According to reports, an NHK reporter on the site heard something that sounded like a gunshot and saw Abe bleeding.
