Water level in Bheri River crosses danger level, alert issued

KATHMANDU: The local administration has issued warning after the water level in the Bheri river has crossed danger level. In general, warning is issued when the water level reaches 4.5 meters.

At present, the water level was measured at 5.23 meters against danger level of 5 meters, said Chief District Officer Khagendra Prasad Rijal.

Following this, the Meteorological Forecasting Division has appealed to the people living in the river banks of the Bheri river and along the confluence of the Bheri and Karnali rivers from Rimna to Jamu to remain alert.

Settlements at Ranighat, Tallo Dopka, Taranga, Sanjhghat, Chepang, Bachhi, Chamri, Kuka, Buti, Jamu, Tikhakuna and Ghat along the Bheri river banks are at risks of flooding.

Meanwhile, following a surge in the water level in the Bheri river, construction materials supplied to construct the Bheri-Babai diversion were taken to safety, said Bimal Dangi, chief of the Raktakali Battalion, Bangeshimal, Surkhet.
