‘No Horn’ campaign re-launched in Kathmandu Valley

KATHMANDU: The ‘No Horn’ campaign has been re-launched in Kathmandu Valley from Sunday.

The campaign was jointly re-launched by Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balendra Shah and Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office Chief Deputy Inspector General of Police Meera Chaudhary amidst a program in the capital today.

To launch the campaign, Mayor Shah and DIG Chaudhary pasted yellow stickers written “No Horn” on each other’s vehicles. The campaign is a part of community-police partnership program.

One hundred students of Padmakanya Multiple Campus will be assisting the traffic police personnel for the next 15 days from today to make the ‘No Horn’ campaign successful and to spread awareness of noise pollution among the road users.

KMC Mayor Shah said that this program has been re-started to continue the ‘No Horn’ campaign as blowing horns not only cause noise pollution but also have a negative effect on the mental health of people.

‘No Horn’ campaign had first come into implementation on April 14, 2017, to control noise pollution in Kathmandu Valley.

The campaign prohibits blowing horns on city roads, except during an emergency.
