Malaysia to recruit 500,000 migrant workers

KATHMANDU: Employment-providing companies in Malaysia have demanded around 500,000 foreign migrant workers.

With the Coronavirus pandemic subsiding and economic activities gradually gaining momentum, Malaysia is making preparations to recruit a huge number of foreign migrant workers.

The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Yaakob,  had announced that a minimum salary of a worker in the country would be 1,500 ringgit from May.  Similarly, some multinational companies have already started providing 1,600 ringgit from April itself.

According to Free Malaysia Today, an online digital media, various Malaysian companies have submitted applications in the human resource department calling for 475,678 migrant workers.

The highest number of human resources (290,248) have been sought for the manufacturing sector, 77,000 service sector, 53,854 for plantation sector, 43,519 for construction, 11,037 for agriculture, and 22 workers have been demanded mining sector, according to Minister for Human Resources M Saravanan.
