Committee formed to investigate into Pashupati dharmashala

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has formed a committee to probe an issue relating to the Nepal-India Pashupati Maitri dharmashala.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Prem Bahadur Ale directed to form a five-member committee under the leadership of treasurer of Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) Narayan Prasad Subedi. Members of the committee are Aasha Pandey, Bishwokaran Jayan and Devi Prasad Baral while undersecretary (account) of the Ministry is member-secretary.

The committee has been asked to submit the report to the Ministry within seven days.

The PADT leased out the dharmashala to Aananda Pvt. Ltd. (Batas Group). The Group has been accused of running the dharmashala as a hotel and rampantly taking charges from religious tourists for using it.

The Youth Association on Friday submitted a memorandum to the Minister demanding investigations into the matter. Receiving the memo, the Minister assured that all public structures and lands that that were encroached would be taken back.
