Nepali Congress holding meeting to select candidates for Nov 20 elections



KATHMANDU: The Central Working Committee (CWC) of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) is holding a meeting to select first-past-the-post candidates for the House of Representative and Provincial Assembly elections.

A CWC meet is scheduled to be held at Prime Minister’s residence, Baluwatar, on Thursday at 9 am.

The committee meeting held on Monday made two criteria for selecting candidates.

While selecting the candidate, recommendations made for the candidates from different levels of the party according to the statute, personal qualifications, morals, work ability, contribution to the democratic movement, social role, contribution to different levels and areas of the party, popularity and prospects for the future have been used as one of the basis.

The NC will not field those candidate contesting the local level elections held on May 13 again for November 20.

The NC is preparing to select candidates today and tomorrow as nomination registration is on October 9.

However, since the distribution of seats in the ruling coalition has not been finalized, the NC is in dilemma over the selection of candidates.
