2nd edition of Int’l Theater Festival to be held from Nov 25

KATHMANDU: The second edition of Nepal International Theatre Festival (NITFest)-2022 is going to be organized from November 25 to December 3.

The Festival is to be held at the Mandala Theatre at Thapagaun, Kathmandu with the slogan ‘Theatre for Social Transformation: Celebrating Diversity’.

According to the playlist of dramas unveiled by the Mandala Theatre, altogether 16 plays from various countries such as India, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Russia, Italy, Spain, Egypt, Uruguay and Argentina among others will be staged during the nine-day festival.

Also, six Nepali dramas will be shown during the event with one drama in the opening day and another on the closing, according to the organizer- Mandala Theatre.

Plays will be shown in three venues simultaneously-the main theatre hall of the Mandala Theatre, studio and open spaces, it was informed.

The festival, according to Mandala Theatre’s founder chairperson Dayahang Rai, aims to encourage the culture of watching drama, one of the performing arts.

“We participate in various drama festivals abroad but we do not have such festivals here in the country. Mandala Theatre initiated the international theatre festival because we want to celebrate drama as a festival,” Rai said.

The international dramas to be staged in the festival will show diverse arts, cultures, socio-political conditions as well as emotions and feelings of various participating countries, the organizers said.

Theatrical performances apart, the Festival also promises musical events alongside.

The first edition of the NITFest was held in February, 2019.
