KATHMANDU: The habeas corpus case of international criminal Charles Sobhraj has been put on hold as not to be seen on Wednesday.

The writ petition filed by Sobhraj was scheduled to be heard in a division bench of Justices Bamkumar Shrestha and Nahakul Subedi on Wednesday, but the case has not been heard.

Earlier, a bench of Justice Anil Kumar Sinha had demanded the cause of not granting him release as per the Senior Citizen Act 2006. A writ petition for habeas corpus was filed on behalf of Sobhraj on December 23.

Sobhraj, who is lodged in the Central Jail Jagannath Deval on the charge of murdering a foreign national in Nepal, has reached the apex claiming that he has paid his imprisonment term.

This is not the first time that Sobhraj has filed a writ petition demanding his release. Even before this, he had repeatedly reached the Apex Court. He has been claiming that he should get the rights of a senior citizen released accordingly. However, the court has rejected his demand every time.
