Indian Army Chief Pande arrives in Nepal

Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pande has arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday afternoon leading a five-member delegation on a five-day visit to Nepal.

During the visit, President Bidya Devi Bhandari, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Nepali Army, will honor Indian Army Chief Pande with the honorary title of the General of the Nepal Army on Monday.

General Pande, who arrived Nepal at the invitation of Nepali Army Chief of Army Staff General Prabhuram Sharma, is set to pay homage at the Brave Soldier Memorial at Sainik Manch Tudikhel and interact with cadets of the Command and Staff College, apart from civil programs such as plantation and others.

The Indian Army Chief will also hold an official meeting with Prime Minister and Minister for Defense, Sher Bahadur Deuba, during the visit. He is scheduled to call on PM Deuba on Tuesday.

Lawmakers draw government’s attention to various issues

In a meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) Sunday, the lower house members expressed their concern over ‘politicization’ in Universities and demanded the reforms.

Taking time in the session, Bhimsen Das Pradhan of the Nepali Congress (NC) said the culture of appointing officials at Tribhuvan University (TU) on the basis of political sharing had begun in 2048 BS and the tradition goes on till date as well.

He said that lately a clash between students and officials has escalated and students are likely to face a case for raising questions over the performance and competence of officials.

RPP Chair Lingden announces resignation as lawmaker

Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Lingden has resigned from the post of lawmaker.

The RPP chair announced his resignation during his address to the House of Representatives (HoR) on Sunday.

In his address to the HoR today, he said that his party was against the extension of tenure of the parliament after the elected date had been announced for November 20.

Maoist Chair Prachanda discusses seat-sharing with PM Deuba

Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ held a meeting on Sunday morning.

According to Prime Minister Deuba’s secretariat, Prachanda reached the Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar this morning to meet PM Deuba.

It is said that the focus of the meeting was on the distribution of seats for the upcoming elections.

NC leader Krishna Sitaula’s task force has not been able to reach a consensus after all the parties in the power coalition did not give up their claims.

UML seeks suggestions from general public for its manifesto

The CPN UML has urged the general public to submit suggestions for including them in its election manifesto.

The party is in the process of drafting its election manifesto for the election of the member of the House of Representatives and the Province Assembly. The election is slated for November 20, 2022.

The main opposition party has called for suggestions from all friends and well-wishers of the party.

The deadline for submission of the suggestion is September 10.

NC candidates recommended for all six constituencies of Morang

The Morang district committee of Nepali Congress (NC) has recommended potential candidates for all six constituencies in Morang district.

According to Modraj Ghimire, secretary of the district committee, the party has recommended four leaders for Morang-1, two for Morang-2, one for Morang-3, five for Morang-4, two for Morang-5 and four for Morang-6.

For Morang-6 – the electoral constituency of NC leader Dr Shekhar Koirala, the district committee has recommended four names.

Along with Koirala, the committee has recommended Dr Dila Sangraula, Ramesh Jung Rayamahi and Shiva Kumar Basnet for the constituency.

Security guard arrested for “misbehaving” with sitting Minister

Police have arrested a security guard deployed at VFS Global for “misbehaving” with a sitting Minister when the latter visited the facility in personal capacity.

VFS Global is an exclusive service provider for the Government of Canada, authorized to provide administrative support services to visa applicants in Nepal.

The arrested has been identified as Sher Jung Gurung, who works as a security guard at Garuda Security Services and was deployed at VFS Global office at Chhaya Center in Thamel, Kathmandu, on Friday when the incident took place.

Police Circle Durbar Marg, Kathmandu, arrested Gurung from VSF Global office after Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Jeevan Ram Shrestha returned from the facility on Friday.

Durbar Marg Police Circle Chief DSP Kopila Chudal said that they are investigating the case after receiving a complaint of misbehavior with a minister.

Nepal sees 142 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 142 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Sunday.

Of the confirmed cases, 116 were detected through the RT-PCR method and 26 through the Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 3,450 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.

Of them, 1,756 samples were tested through RT-PCR and 1,694 through the Antigen method.

NEPSE gains 6.68 points to close at 1,977.30 mark

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index has gained 6.68 points to close at 1,977.30 points on Sunday, the first trading day of this week.

Likewise, the Sensitive Index also went up by 0.57 points to settle at 383.77 points.

A total of 2,876,288 units of shares of 227 companies changed hands via 26,046 transactions, resulting in turnover of 1.07 billion.

Ru Ru Jalbidhyut Pariyojana Limited was the top gainer for the day and gained the highest 10 percent while Support Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited was the biggest loser that shed 2.86 percent in the secondary market today.
