Cabinet meeting likely to announce election date today

KATHMANDU: The Council of Ministers is meeting today to finalize and announce the date of the federal parliament elections.

The meeting will be held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar this afternoon.

Sources said that today’s Cabinet meeting will most likely announce the date for the parliamentary and provincial elections.

It may be noted that a meeting of the five-party ruling coalition held on Wednesday decided to hold the elections on November 20 this year.

Earlier, the Election Commission (EC) had suggested holding the election on November 18, but Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba had been mulling over holding it on November 20.

In addition to reaching an agreement on the election date, the coalition meeting discussed about the performance of the local election.
