Bhoto Jatra festival marked with much fanfare
This year’s Bhoto Jatra festival associated with Rato Machchhindranath, the deity of rain and good harvest, concluded on Saturday with much fanfare.
The festival was not marked for the past two years owing to the risk of the coronavirus pandemic.
The month-long chariot pulling festival of Rato Machindranath was started on May 4 and concluded today by displaying the Bhoto or the jewel-studded vest at Jawlakhel.
Lalitpur District Chief of Guthi Sansthan Hari Prasad Subedi displayed the Bhoto in the presence of President Bidya Devi Bhandari as per the tradition to display the Bhoto on the fourth day of pulling the chariot from Lagankhel to Jawalakhel.
Mayors vow to make Kathmandu Valley bicycle-friendly
The mayors of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Kirtipur have jointly expressed their commitment to make the Kathmandu Valley a bicycle-friendly city.
Addressing a bicycle rally organized by www.khabarhub.com in collaboration with Cycle Culture Movement on the occasion of World Bicycle and Environment Day this morning, Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Balendra Shah, Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City Chiribabu Maharjan and Mayor of Kirtipur Municipality Raj Kumar Nakarmi expressed their commitment to take necessary steps to make the Valley a bicycle-friendly city.
Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Balendra Shah said that a necessary study would be started from the metropolis immediately into the work of bicycle-friendly roads and infrastructure in Kathmandu.
Govt clear on building Nijgadh Int’l Airport: Finance Minister Sharma
Finance Minister Janardan Sharma on Saturday said the government was clear on constructing the Nijgadh International Airport in Bara.
Construction of the project has come to a halt following the verdict of the Supreme Court not to continue with the project. “Nijgadh airport should and will be constructed. This is my commitment. The incumbent government has accorded high priority to the project,” he said, while addressing the 46th annual general meeting of the Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Birgunj.
UML wins majority seats in Biratnagar metropolis Executive Committee
The CPN-UML has won the majority of seats in election to the Municipal Executive Committee in Biratnagar Metropolitan City.
The alliance of the 43 UML local representatives and three independently-elected representatives0 secured the most executive member posts in the 29-member Executive Committee in metropolis on Saturday, regardless of the fact that the ruling coalition parties had 50 elected representatives as voters.
In the election, five women members of the UML and one Dalit and minority local representative were elected.
KMC Mayor Balen holds meeting with Prachanda
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balendra Shah has met with CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda on Saturday morning.
Mayor Shah held a meeting with Prachanda at the latter’s residence in Khumaltar. According to Prachanda’s secretariat, the meeting focused on how to make Kathmandu Metropolitan City, which is also the federal capital, clean and organized.

Two persons die of altitude sickness in Yarsagumba pocket areas of Mugu
Two people have died this week in Yarsagumba collection areas of Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality of Mugu district.
A student of Grade IX at Buddha Secondary School at Mangri village, Asal Tamang, 16, of ward 7 died of breathing difficulty arising from altitude sickness on Friday afternoon.
Tamang had gone to Take Patan area to collect the medicinal herb, Yarsagumba. He died at Chhotechaur while being carried to the village for treatment.
Ward 7 Chairman Shashank Lama said two people have died in less than a week in the Yarsa collection areas.
