KATHMANDU: The Press Council Nepal is to give continuity to the orientation program on the code of conduct for journalists to streamline online journalism.

Council Chairperson Balkrishna Basnet expressed his confidence that the orientation program would help in sensitization of the code of conduct among the concerned.

Federation of Nepalis Journalists (FNJ) President Bipul Pokharel asserted that the code of conduct for online journalism operations in Nepal was jointly launched by the FNJ.

He viewed that orientation was needed to help journalists build good character.

Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) Chief Editor Ekraj Pathak observed that dignified and fair journalism would be promoted through compliance with the code of conduct.

Stating that journalism is literature in haste, he suggested that there should be a willingness in journalists to rectify if any error occurs while disseminating the information through media.

Similarly, former Vice-President of FNJ Anita Bindu shed light on various provisions in the Gender-Responsive Communication Directives-2076 BS, Disability-friendly Communication Directives-2073 BS and Children-Friendly Communications Directives-2073 BS.

She was of the view that the code of conduct issued by council for online journalists had incorporated various aspects which were left out earlier.
