Government to continue its priority to the tourism sector: Tourism Secretary Adhikari



KATHMANDU: Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Suresh Adhikari has said that the government has always given importance to the tourism sector.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the new executive committee of Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) here on Friday, he said that the tourism sector cannot develop without cooperation and participation with the private sector.

The Ministry of Tourism has put forward a 73-point action plan to revive Nepal’s tourism sector and the significant contribution of the private sector is necessary for the implementation of this action plan, he said. Secretary Adhikari also pointed out the need for comprehensive infrastructure development for the advancement of the tourism sector.

He also shared that Ministry of Tourism has put forward a plan to observe the tourism decade from 2023 to 2033.

On the occasion, Vice president of Nepal Tourism Board Chandra Prasad Rijal, expressed the view that everyone should work together to solve the problems facing the tourism sector while President of the Nepal Mountaineering Association Nima Nuru Sherpa called for collaboration between the private sector and the government to revive the tourism sector.

Outgoing president of TAAN, Khum Bahadur Subedi and newly elected president of TAAN, Neelhari Bastola and other speakers also pointed out the need for unity among the tourism entrepreneurs to work together with the government for reviving the sector that has been hardly hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
