KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has sought clarifications from CPN-UML’s candidate for the election to the House of Representatives from Taplejung, Yogesh Bhattarai and Maoist Centre’s candidate from Kanchanpur-1, Bina Magar, for ‘violating’ the election code of conduct.
The two were asked to submit clarifications for being accompanied by more than 25 people during the home visit program under the election publicity campaign.
The code of conduct does not entertain the election candidate being accompanied by people numbering more than 25 during the registration of nomination or the home visit program for the purpose of election publicity.
As the EC said, candidate Bhattarai who is also the UML Secretary is allegedly creating a gathering of people of more than 25 at Sikaicha in Sirijunga rural municipality that lies under his constituency and he also publicized it in his Facebook page.
Likewise, the EC received the complaint that Maoist leader Magar took over 25 people along with her during the election publicity campaign in Belauri municipality.
The leaders have been asked to clarify whether their moves are not in contravention to the election code of conduct.
