Five days remand to investigate on rape accused UML lawmaker Baniya

BANKE: The main opposition CPN-UML lawmaker Mohan Baniya, who was arrested in a rape case, has been remanded in custody for five days.

The Banke District Court on Wednesday extended the time limit by five days to investigate the incident.

According to DSP Mudhusudan Neupane, spokesperson of the District Police Office, Baniya, who is also a former minister, was produced in court only on Wednesday due to the Shivaratri holiday.

A 40-year-old teacher from Jumla had lodged a complaint against lawmaker Banyia at the Banke police station. Baniya had been absconding after the woman’s complaint.

The fugitive was arrested by the police from Ranjha Airport in Banke on Monday.
