Suspended CJ Rana doubts impartiality of impeachment committee lawmakers

KATHMANDU: Suspended Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shumsher Rana has raised questions over the impartiality of the members of the impeachment recommendation committee parliamentarians.

Giving his statement at the Committee on Thursday, Rana asked the lawmakers whether they were impartial and that those lawmakers who proposed impeachment against him were in the committee.

“How could someone who proposed impeachment can be a member of the recommendation committee?” Rana asked.

Rana said it was against the principles of natural justice.

He also argued that it would be a conflict of interest for those proposing impeachment to be a part of the committee and investigate.

“The parliamentarian who proposed impeachment cannot remain in the investigation committee. This will invite a conflict of interest,” Rana said.
