KATHMANDU: CPN-UML lawmaker and former Finance Minister Surendra Pandey has said that dialysis should be provided free of cost to kidney patients.

Taking part in the general discussion on the annual revenue and expenditure estimates for the fiscal year 2022/23 in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, UML lawmaker Pandey said that the allowance provided by the government to the kidney patients could not be useful when there is a shortage of dialysis machines.

“It is good to announce to give five thousand rupees to cancer and kidney patients. However, such offers will be of no use unless there are supportive machines like dialysis machines in the hospital. Unfortunately, most of the hospitals either do not have the dialysis machine or the machines are out of order,” he said, adding, “Better by the dialysis machines and ensure that no patients have to wait for six months to get a turn for dialysis.”
