MCA-Nepal clarifies ‘confidential’ documents related to MCC do not exist

KATHMANDU: The Millennium Challenge Account Nepal Development Board (MCA-Nepal) has clarified there are no ‘confidential’ or ‘hidden’ documents related to the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Nepal Compact as falsely indicated by few media reports of late.

MCA-Nepal, issuing a statement Tuesday and refuting the existence of confidential documents, said the organization as an extreme transparent entity circulated all documents of public importance through its website and other formal channels accessible to all. “Concealing any documents related to MCC Nepal Compact is against the values of transparency of MCA-Nepal,” the statement read.

“To label the ‘Environmental Impact Assessment Report’ prepared in accordance to the Environmental Protection Act and containing summary of public hearings held in the 32 villages and municipalities along the right of way of the transmission line is to disrespect government body,” it added.

MCA-Nepal is an agency of Nepal government under the Ministry of Finance formed to manage a joint fund of Nepal government and MCC to foster economic growth with better access to electricity and roads. It is governed by a Board chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance.

Condemning the trend of spreading counterfeit information related to MCA-Nepal among the public, the body urged the public to be aware of unverified and misleading information.

“MCA-Nepal is committed to providing any document sought by the public in accordance with the Right to Information through our office,” the statement said.
