Ex-president Yadav slams govt for failing to resolve crisis in judiciary (with video)



KATHMANDU: Former President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has criticized the government for failing to resolve the crisis in judiciary.

Former President Yadav was also of the view that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba should not have left the country when the judiciary was embroiled in controversy.

At the launch of the book titled ‘BP Thoughts, Policies and Behaviors’ in Kathmandu on Sunday, the former president asked shouldn’t the government solve the crisis seen in judiciary through consultation with eminent persons of the judiciary and legal experts. “Could not the Law Minister address the problem?” he asked. He added the Prime Minister’s visit to the United Kingdom as the judiciary is in turmoil is a disgraceful in front of the international community.

He also questioned the government and the political parties regarding the stance of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana of not resigning despite vehement and united protest from the all the sides, including Supreme Court judges, Nepal Bar and lawyers. “On whose backing has the CJ refused to resign?” he wondered.

Former President Yadav also expressed dissatisfaction over the role of President Bidya Devi Bhandari when the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli dissolved the parliament.

Former President Yadav also expressed concern that the political parties were not serious about implementing the constitution.
