Nepal Bar’s former President Thapa demands CJ Rana’s instant resignation



KATHMANDU: Former president of the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) and senior advocate Shambhu Thapa has reiterated that Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana’s resignation is a must to resolve the crisis in judiciary and the Chief Justice has no ground to refuse to resign from the post.

Speaking to the reporters during the NBA’s sit-in against Chief Justice Rana in Kathmandu on Sunday, senior advocate Thapa demanded the resignation of the Chief Justice.

Thapa made it clear that they have now humbly demanded his resignation.

“We want the Chief Justice to take responsibility of the declining credibility of the judiciary, we want him to take responsibility of the corruption, malpractice and incompetence so far,” he said, adding, “We want the Chief Justice to abide by the code of conducts and ethics he swore by; and resignation is the only way to end the stalemate at the court.”

Comparing judiciary with the Pashupatinath, a sacred place for the hindus all over the world, Thapa remarked that like the main priest ‘Mul Bhatta’ at Pashupatinath, the Chief Justice is expected to follow all the rituals and procedures for the people’s trust underlies there; however, Chief Justice Rana failed to maintain the sanctity, chastity, credibility of the judiciary, so he (the Chief Justice) should resign from the post.

He made it clear that as long as the Chief Justice would remain in the post, NBA advocates would not take part in hearing.
