Husband and wife die in Lumjung fire



LAMJUNG: A couple has died in a fire at Simpani Segle in Marsyangdi rural municipality-9 of Lamjung district at the wee hours on Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as Dharmaraj Bhandari, 56, of Dhansar and his wife Pashupati, 50, died on the spot at the wee hours on Tuesday, said police.

According to Tilak Bhandari, a local, the couple had been living alone in a small hut. They had no children. “We tried to put out the fire at night but in vain,” Bhandari said.

DSP Krishna Bahadur Karki of the District Police Office said that no one was immediately aware of the fire while they were asleep. According to him, the fire may have been caused by a leakage of a cooking gas.

Meanwhile, a team of Khudi police station has been deployed to the incident site.
