Three held for submitting fake certificates for EDV program

KATHMANDU: It has been revealed that some of those who have participated in visa processes after receiving an EDV-2021 have submitted fake academic certificates.

Fake academic certificates were found to have been submitted during an investigation launched into those who were trying to go to America under EDV, said Nepal Police Headquarters.

Nepal Police Spokesperson SSP Basanta Bahadur Kunwar said three individuals have been arrested in this connection and investigating the case.

The arrested are Jeevan Karki, 36, of Chitwan, currently staying at Kathmandu Metropolitan-14, Kalanki, Nabin Darai, 31, of Chitwan, Khairahani and Shiva Rokka, 32, of Rautahat, Chandrapur, currently staying at Koteshwor.

Metropolitan Police Crime Division has launched an investigation into the case following a complaint lodged by the American Embassy that fake plus 2 academic certificates had been submitted by some candidates during American visa processes.

A team of MPCD arrested Darai and Rokka from Maharajgunj. During the investigation, Darai admitted to have procured his fake academic certificate for Rs 170,000 from Jeevan Karki. Karki was also arrested from Kalanki.

Police have forwarded a case against them under the Section 25 of National Criminal Code, 2017.
