Ruling parties on parleys for House session

KATHMANDU: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Gyanendra Bahadur Karki on Monday held a meeting with the chief whips and whips of the ruling parties as a part of the government preparations to summon the federal parliament session.

The government is preparing to summon the House session to make amendments to the budget unveiled by the erstwhile KP Oli government through ordinance on May 29.

As per the constitutional provision, the ordinance should be either replaced or made deactivate within 60 days of beginning of the House session. Prior to this, the House session summoned on July 18 as per the Supreme Court’s mandamus order was ended August 16 after Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba won vote of confidence for the House of Representatives. In the restored parliament, Finance Minister Janardan Sharma had tabled Economic Ordinance, Appropriation Ordinance and other.

The House should decide the fate of those ordinances within September 19. In today’s meeting, discussions were held regarding the management of the House session and ways to advance the budget and ordinances, whip of Nepali Congress parliamentary party Pushpa Bhusal said.

Likewise, chief whip of CPN Maoist Center Dev Prasad Gurung said that no decision was taken at the meeting despite general consultations were held on budget and ordinance adding that the government was to decide on the date of the parliament session.
