Gokarneshwor Municipality allows reopening schools physically from Tuesday

KATHMANDU: Listening to the school operators and other stakeholders, the Gokarneshwar Municipality of Kathmandu has allowed the schools in the municipality to resume the schools physically from Tuesday, August 31.

According to the municipality, the authority decided to allow the resumption of the school after the stakeholders’ remarks that the students’ study habit has been paralyzed due to the closure of the schools.

“The stakeholders including the school operators and the guardians started mounting pressure saying that the learning habits of the children has been adversely impacted by the long term closure of the schools,” Tekendra Dhakal, an official of the municipality said, adding, “The Municipal Education Committee on Sunday decided to let reopening the schools provided they can ensure that all health safety measures and the protocols are strictly abided by the school operators.”

He said that the municipality would monitor the health safety standards of the school.

The municipality has 16 community and 91 institutional schools with more than 40,000 students under them.

Meanwhile, the District Administration Office said that no permission has been given to run the school.

“No permission is given to run the schools while the injunction to curb the coronavirus pandemic,” Kathmandu Chief District Officer Kali Prasad Parajuli said, adding, “And there is no possibility of operation of the school immediately as the risk of coronavirus infection prevails.”
