Bird flu detected in Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: Bird flu has been detected in Kathmandu.

Avian influenza has been detected in turkeys and ducks reared by local farmers of Sangle Khola Futung in Tarkeshwor Municipality-7.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, bird flu has been confirmed in turkeys and ducks during a real-time PCR test conducted at Central Livestock Research Laboratory.

The ministry stated all the domestic birds and other contagious items in the affected areas have been destroyed by mobilizing the agencies related to animal service at the federal, provincial, and local levels to prevent the spread of the disease.

According to the ministry, 1,865 ducks, 622 quails, 32 chickens, 25 turkeys, 542 eggs, and 75 kg grains were destroyed in Tarkeshwor.
