Laborer working at Nagdhunga tunnel dies in accident



KATHMANDU: A laborer working at the Nagdhunga tunnel connecting Dhading and Kathmandu has died in an accident inside the tunnel on Thursday night.

The deceased has been identified as Om Krishna Pandey, 28, of Kanakot in Dhunibeshi Municipality-9, said Jageshwor Bhandari, information officer at the District Police Office.

Pandey had been injured when a vehicle carrying soil inside the tunnel hit him while he was at work inside the tunnel. He died on the way while being rushed to National Trauma Center for treatment.

According to the police, the victim’s side, the police and the construction company are currently engaged in discussion for providing proper compensation to the family of the deceased and to ensure the safety of the workers. Work on the tunnel has been halted for time being.

The construction company said the deceased worker was insured and the family would be compensated as per the insurance.
