UML’s Madhav Nepal faction not to join government

KATHMANDU: Notwithstanding the pressure coming from the ruling coalition partners, the Madhav Nepal faction of the CPN-UML has decided not to join the government.

The faction has decided that it will not join the government immediately amid speculations that the disgruntled faction of the UML would join the Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government.

UML senior leader Nepal had discussed the issue of whether or not to join the government with the lawmakers close to him on Wednesday.

Many of the lawmakers insisted that they should join the government immediately.

Lawmaker Metmani Chaudhary said that majority of the lawmakers were in favor of joining the Deuba-led government.

However, the faction later decided that it will not participate in the government immediately.

“We have decided not to join the government immediately,” UML leader Birodh Khatiwada said.

Asked why did the faction preferred not to join the government, Khatiwada said firstly, they would continue efforts for party unity, the second reason was because of the legal hurdle.

It should be noted that UML senior leader Nepal did not attend the meeting of the ruling coalition held in Baluwatar on Thursday morning to discuss the expansion of the Council of Ministers.

Meanwhile, it has been learned that leader Nepal is also not in favor of endorsing the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) at any cost.
