Court will settle dispute based on constitution, not hypothesis: Thapa

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Gagan Thapa expressed his confidence that the Supreme Court will give its verdict on the dissolution of House issue based on the words and spirit of the incumbent constitution and not on the hypothetical conditions.

Addressing a rally organized by the party’s Kathmandu Constituency No 6 at Ratna Park on Friday, Thapa said that there is no need to be afraid of the court as NC has already spoken about the dissolution.

Reminding all that they are NC cadres, the followers of BP Koirala who had said that justice should not be killed within the four forts of the court, he added that NC has spoken about the issue because NC is reiterating on the need to enforce the words and spirit of the constitution in practice.

“Some say one should not talk about the case in court, NC has spoken about it because, it’s the party of BP Koirala who held the belief that justice should not be killed within the four forts of the court,” leader Thapa said, “We are not saying anything against the constitution, we are reiterating that the court will base its verdict on the words and provisions in the constitution not on hypothesis.”

He scoffed at the people who don’t dare to speak for justice as cowards.

“The court will base its decision on the basis of what is written in the constitution, the words there have not come from nowhere, they are written after thorough discussion among the people’s representatives; hence, the court will decide on the basis of what is written not on imagination,” NC leader Thapa expressed his confidence in the judiciary and added that if expressing highest faith in the SC is the contempt of court he is ready to face it.
